Supporting statement from Club
Please note that although the Level 1 Qualification is now ratified as a UKCC qualification, GNAS have yet to roll-out the UKCC version of the course and arrange to have it delivered by UKCC accredited coach educators. GNAS have yet to publish details of how candidates who successfully complete the course will be required to "update" to the full UKCC qualification.
Level 1 is the entry level for archers wishing to train as Coaches and, not surprisingly, concentrates on the basic skills required to teach those new to archery at its lowest level. In this respect the main goal of the course is to equip coaches with the skills to -
In addition the course provides a background to coaches in the following -
The course lays the foundations of being able to teach a good basic style of archery to those new to the sport. Subsequently coaches have the opportunity to develop their coaching skills and knowledge further through participation in a Level 2 course. This extends technical knowldege both in depth and breath - it covers compound bows and longbow, develops the coaches skills in observation & analysis and provides training in how to use these skills to improve the performance of archers. Holding a Level 1 qualification is a prerequisite for attending a Level 2 course.
The course is open to all GNAS members and consists of a period of formal tuition (25hrs over three days) followed by a period of supported practice in your own club and under the guidance of a mentor of your choice. When you and your mentor feel you are ready, you can request your internal assessment which will be conducted by the course tutors. Finally you will be assessed by an external assessor and you must complete all your assessments within one year of the start of the course.
Assessment is carried out by observing you teaching beginners in a real coaching session. This need not be a formal beginners course - it could be a one off lesson you run for a couple of your friends or family. You will have to be seen teaching both an adult and a junior and teaching both barebow and Olympic styles.
